Brainsport Times Nov 4, 2015

It's been great to see some new faces at Run Club over the past several weeks. In last week's Times we spoke with one of the original Run Club members, Don Cochrane. This week we thought it would be fun to introduce one of the newest members, boxer, Herve Ndabaneze..

Q&A with Herve Ndabaneze
Tara: Before we get into your boxing career and how running plays a role in your training, it would be great to learn more about your background. What brought you to Saskatoon? And, how did you discover Run Club?
Herve: I moved to Saskatoon two years ago. I'm originally from Burundi in east Africa, but I have been living in Quebec for 11 years. The reason I came to Saskatoon is because I heard there were more job opportunities in the west. Especially in Saskatoon .
This summer, when I was at the Blackstrap trail race somebody told me that Brainsport had a run club and that it would be a good idea for me to join .

Tara: As a competitive boxer what role does running play in your training?

Herve: Running plays a big role in my boxing training because as a competitive boxer I'm supposed to run everyday, mostly short distances but at a high pace. I can definitely say since I started running I have seen a lot of improvement in my overall physical fitness.

Tara: How long have you been coming out to Run Club? And, what has the  experience been like so far?

Herve: I have been coming to Run Club for five weeks, and the experience has been great. Everybody is nice, and I'm always learning something new .

Tara: What are you're boxing goals? Is it true you're aiming for the Olympics?

Herve: When I started boxing three years ago, my goal was to just have one or two competitive bouts just to see if I like it or not, but after my second bout I knew that it's something I really wanted to do. And, so far I have had 14 bouts with 10 wins 4 losses. Yes, I'm aiming for the 2016 Olympics. I actually  ust won the Saskatchewan provincial championship, which gives me the opportunity to take part in a qualifier tournament for a spot on the national team, to be held in Montreal at the beginning of December.

Tara: What do you have to say to other newcomers, or people who know newcomers, who may want to try out Run Club?

Herve: I would tell them to give it a try and not to be intimidated because there are all kinds of groups depending on your running experience. It's also a good way to meet people from different walks of life .
