Brainsport Times Apr. 13, 2016
We have an exciting evening coming up this week! On Friday, April 15 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. you're all invited to the Brainsport Run Club/Academy Appreciation Night.
To fill us in on all the details we'll be speaking with Brian in this week's Q&A. So, let's get right to it!
Q&A with Brian Michasiw
Tara: What’s was the motivation to present this evening of appreciation?
Brian: We want to give our loyal customers an opportunity to gear up for the Saskatchewan Marathon event. As a token of our appreciation we’ll have an extra special discount on Friday evening.
Tara: The timing of the appreciation night is very intentional. Can you elaborate on why you think it’s important to offer this discount at this time?
Brian: I was in Victoria for the Victoria Marathon a few years ago and I looked at my shoes and noticed the out sole was worn out. I didn’t feel confident going into that race with them worn out. I like to have a fresh pair for racing. This was a good lesson to be more aware about whether or not my shoes are ready to go into a race.
This week I’ll decide which shoes I’ll be wearing in the Saskatchewan Marathon, so I can run in them a few times and not have any surprises. The timing is very good right now to prepare. We’re about six weeks out — in my opinion this is the perfect time to get ready for your race.
Tara: Shoes are definitely very important, but preparation goes beyond footwear. What else will you be preparing?
Brian: This week I’ll also decide which socks, shorts, singlet, and hat I’ll wear. I’ll get a few runs in them and know what to expect on race day. For example, I like a really low sock, but sometimes you can get a pair that doesn’t quite fit right and slips down into your shoes. Another big thing can be chaffing because of the wrong pair of shorts. These are the types of potential surprises you want to try to avoid on race day.
Tara: What kind of discount will loyal customers be getting on Friday evening?
Brian: We’re going to go with 20% off of regular in stock merchandise — not including electronics. I hope to see you all out there. They’ll be lots of staff on to help you out — and refreshments for everyone!
