Brainsport Times Sept 5, 2018

Welcome to September, everyone! Hopefully all of you are getting settled in nicely to the shift in pace after the long weekend. In this week's Q&A we're learning about a unique run in the area that many of you will likely be interested in getting in on. The Saskatoon Regional Economic Development Authority (SREDA) is hosting a 10K run on September 15 called the SREDA Regional Race. Ths race will take runners (or walkers) from Martensville to Warman, ending with a community brunch.Kristen Johannesson from SREDA is here to tell us all about it, so let's get to it!

Q&A with Kristen JohannessonTara: Before we start talking about the race, for those who aren't familiar with what the Saskatoon Regional Economic Development Authority is, would you mind sharing what it's about?

Kristen: The Saskatoon Regional Economic Development Authority (SREDA) helps strengthen and grow the local economy through six pillars: business attraction, business expansion, entrepreneurship, economic forecastingand analysis, marketing the Saskatoon Region, and regional economic development and planning. We work with municipalities surrounding and including Saskatoon and the private sector to achieve this goal.

Tara: Running events often serve as an economic boost to local communities; how have you seen such events impact the region?

Kristen: Events such as races, bring in people from outside communities to learn from and experience host communities. Whether it's stopping off at the local café for a coffee before the event or staying to shop in the community afterward, we want people to see that Warman and Martensville are growing and have lots to offer. Maybe they will even consider setting up a business or moving their family there!

Tara: Tell us about the SREDA Regional Race; what are some of the details in terms of distance options, who's welcome to participate, etc.?

Kristen: The 2018 SREDA Regional Race will happen on Saturday, September 15 and take racers from Martensville to Warman. This unique 10K race is open to everyone and we welcome people to run or walk the route! The race will commence at 9:30 a.m. from Martensville’s Kinsmen Park and finish in Warman’s Prairie Oasis Park.

Kristen: The race is a community event bringing people from surrounding communities to Warman and Martensville. If people aren’t interested in the race, we encourage people to come and attend the brunch afterward and celebrate these two communities.Tara: Is there anything else you would like to add?

Kristen: Racers will receive an awesome swag bag filled with goodies, a sweet T-shirt from Brainsport and SREDA, a commemorative medal, brunch, and a shuttle ride back to Martensville. All this for only $25!

We are very thankful for all the support we have received from the communities and sponsors! Follow SREDA’s Facebook and Instagram to find out more and don’t forget to register.
