Brainsport Times Feb. 28, 2018

We're excited to be hosting the Brainsport Running Academy Shopping and Learning Night this upcoming Monday! This is an opportunity for all former, or current participants of the academy to take advantage of some great deals on gear, as well as learn a few things along the way.

To get the scoop on this event we're going to speak with Brainsport's Harvey Mathies in this week's Q&A. But before we get to that we want to wish everyone who's participating in the Brainfreeze all the best this Sunday - have fun out there!

On that note, we're having a Brainfreeze sale this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. All in-stock Mizuno shoes will be 20 percent off. And buy one item of clothing at regular price and get the second item of clothing (equal or less value) for only five dollars!

Alright, now let's get to our conversation with Harvey.

Q&A with Harvey Mathies

Tara: What was the motivation to put on a shopping and learning night?

Harvey: For the past couple years Brainsport has put on an appreciation sales night for anyone who had taken a clinic throughout the past year. This year we thought we would add something new by not only having a great sale but adding some refreshments and learning time.

Many of our clinic participants are repeat participants. They realize the value in being trained by expert running coaches and expert speakers, regarding theory that is important to know in order to keep healthy while training. Our goal with this shopping night is to change things up a bit and create something different and exciting.

Tara: Let’s start with the shopping, what is special about this night in terms of making purchases?

Harvey: This will be a fun and interactive shopping night. To start off the evening everyone will receive 10 percent off on all regular priced items except electronics. Secondly, we will be having three 15-minute speakers. For each session that anyone attends they will receive a stamp worth 5 percent which will be added to their 10 percent off. For those who attend all three presentations they will receive 25 percent off regular priced items except electronics. Last but not least, there will be refreshments so all you past and present clinic participants come out and enjoy!

Tara: And how about the learning aspect of the evening, what can people expect to be presented with on this night

Harvey: Our evening will be jam packed with learning opportunities from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to stop by these tables and question the experts about things within there expertise. In addition to having the information tables set up we will have three 15-minute speaking sessions in the Community Room. We’ll be starting with Zone Physiotherapy speaking on running technique. Then Al Bodnarchuk will present on self-massage. Then we’ll welcome back Zone Physiotherapy to present on core stability.

Tara: What are some of the other perks to coming out to the store for this event?

Harvey: You’ll get to know others in your clinic as well as in other clinics who are all there to learn and shop. We hope this will help you create a network of companion runners, which is very important as you continue on with your running. Some people in these clinics will become some of your best friends and others you will meet from time to time in the future and immediately have a common bond with. So come out to encourage your fellow runners and have a good evening.

Tara: Is there anything else you would like to add?

Harvey: I would like to say a big thank you to all the clinic participants who come to train with the Brainsport Running Academy. We are privileged to have you join us. Also a big thank you to our coaches and speakers who put so much effort into putting out the best training schedules and quality information which is so needed for runners to be prepared and healthy.
