Brainsport Times Jun. 24, 2015
Congratulations to our colleague Jamie Epp on his induction into the Saskatoon Sports Hall Fame in track and field — cross country.
During his time as a member of the U of S track team Jamie won the 1,500 metre Canadian university championship three times and the 3,000 metre once. Jamie also won the university championship in cross country twice and was twice runner-up. Way to go Jamie!
This week our Queen City Marathon clinic gets underway. We spoke to coach Jen Kripki, who's leading the team this summer, about her extensive coaching background and her hopes for QCM Team Brainsport.
But before we get to that, a quick note: There will be no Run Club on Wednesday, July 1. Enjoy your BBQ's and Canada Day Celebrations!
Q&A with Jen Kripki
Tara: You're a very experienced personal trainer and running coach — where did you get your start?
Jen: I've been a runner for 23 years. I started out as a fitness runner and later discovered the marathon. Fitness has always been a part of my life so it only seemed natural that this is the path I would choose as a career. I became a Registered Massage Therapist 12 years ago, and then added Fitness Instructing, Personal Training and coaching long distance running to the mix.
Jen: I love to see the progression in each individual and enjoy helping them accomplish the goals they have set for themselves. I have coached participants in Learn to Run clinics that I bump into years down the road and find out that they are now running marathons. It's a pretty neat feeling to know that you played a small part in getting them to where they are now.
Coach Jen Kripki running the 2013 Chicago Marathon.
Jen: Participants can be expected to be challenged by the workouts, but in a fun and supportive environment. The focus for this round of Team Brainsport is all about adding speed to the equation for a faster fall run.
Tara: Do you have a goal in mind for this year's clinic participants?
Jen: Absolutely! The goal is to build off of the strong base that participants have built up over the winter months and add some more speed. My personal goal is to have everyone run a personal best in their chosen fall event.
Tara: Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Jen: I had a blast coaching Team Brainsport in preparation for the Mogathon and I am thrilled to be coaching the next session for the Queen City Marathon. We are into our first week of training with a fantastic group of runners. If anyone is interested there is still time to jump in on this clinic.

Yes, we still want these! We've been getting a nice response to this call out — keep them coming!
Want to help some young track athletes who can't afford proper gear reach their potential? The track coach at W.P. Bate Community School is asking for used spikes to be donated to the kids for an upcoming meet. Some of these kids are just seconds behind their geared-up competition. Let's see what they can get done with the right equipment!
Spikes can be dropped off at Brainsport. Looking for women's size 4-8 and men's size 4-9.
