Brainsport Times Dec. 7, 2016

As we settle in to the Holiday Season many memories have already been made with our families, friends, and ever-so important running pals; we need only look back a few weeks to the running of the 2016 Gingerbread Run. Not only was a ton of fun had by all, but a ton of money was also raised for The Saskatchewan Abilities Council, which will be receiving more than $10,000 as a result of the tremendous response of Saskatoon's running community.

In this week's Q&A we're speaking with Lydia Michasiw, to get a young person's perspective on the race. This Grade 3 student is our youngest interviewee to date - it's also worth noting the Gingerbread Man she was trying to catch was her dad!

Q&A with Lydia Michasiw

Tara: Thanks for doing this Lydia, it's exciting to be talking to you about your experience running in this year's Gingerbread Run! How does it feel to be a part of a race that raised more then $10,000 dollars for charity?

Lydia: Good, I didn’t know it raised money.

Tara: It's really neat that you enjoy running. Did your dad's running get you interested in running yourself? What is your favourite part about it?

Lydia: Yes, My dad can run really fast.I like going to races because it’s fun. It’s fun because . . . I don’t know just I like it.

Tara: It must have been pretty fun chasing the Gingerbread Man. Do you think someday you’ll be able to catch him?

Lydia: Yes, maybe.

Tara: What did you enjoy the most about racing in the Gingerbread Run?

Lydia: When I saw my dad at the end (the finish line) and he was wearing the Gingerbread costume and cheering for me. I really like the bunny hug, because it’s so fuzzy and I like it. I liked the cookies because they were really good.

Tara: Is there anything else you would like to say about your experience?

Lydia: I was scared to run by myself. And then my dad asked someone to run with me (Ken Sterling) and he just ran with me at the start. Then I felt good to run by myself!

Brainsport Manager Lisette Schermann has a special message for everyone! See below.

"The Brainsport Running Streak is back to help you keep running during this holiday season. We’re challenging you to run every day for the entire month of December, even if it’s only one mile. December is dark, and cold, and busy for many of us. It can be the toughest time of year to stick to a regular running routine. The Running Streak is the cure! There are so many great opportunities to go for a run in December, that we’ve made a calendar with an event, group run or workout inspiration for every day of the month.

Go to the
Brainsport Facebook page and join our Running Streak group. It’s a great place to share your pictures and comments and encourage fellow Streakers. Our Running Streak Ambassador, Theresa, will keep you motivated with workout ideas and a few fun contests along the way." - Lis
